If you enjoy anti-heroes, over-the-top action, and things that go boom…

Hello, I’m DMB. This is where I publish daily fiction in a streaming, serial format. I’m the owner and world-builder of the Schism 8 StoryVerse. Over the last decade, I’ve written over 1,000,000 words in five different series within Schism 8.

You are currently tuned into my streaming substack for The Lost DMB Files, a pulpy-western series along the lines of… well, sort of borrowing from stuff like Firefly, The Mandalorian, Jonah Hex, The Wild, Wild West, and No Country for Old Men.

While all the core story content is FREE here on lostdmbfiles.substack (exclusive, bonus content will be made available for premium subscribers), all of these stories will also be available via Amazon.com and Bookshop.org at typical ebook and print book costs. But don’t worry, you’ll never have to pay to finish a story. The stories themselves are, and will remain, free if you want to stream them.

What is a StoryVerse?

Think of fictional worlds such as Star Trek and Marvel. These are StoryVerses. Each produces multiple series by a myriad of content creators. Schism 8 is my StoryVerse. It’s a vast multi-verse that spans eight parallel universes and a timeline longer than human existence. The multiple series that stem from Schism 8 will all highlight the unique aspects of this fictional multi-verse, but the series will roam across many different genres including: dystopian, thriller, western, and urban fantasy.

What series are currently underway in the Schism 8 StoryVerse?

The Lost DMB Files (You are Here!)

Where reefer and el chupacabra merge in a life-and-death fight against the Man. Viva this!

In the summer of 1918, Chancho Villarreal finds himself spit out by his once-beloved revolution. His ideals dashed, he crosses the border into Texas and starts a new life as a goat herder and marihuana farmer with his friends, Muddy and Nena. When Chancho and Muddy inadvertently create the legend of El Chupacabra in an elaborate scam to protect their cannabis crop, they draw the ire of Texas Ranger J.T. McCutchen, soon to be known as the Reefer Ranger.

Fugitives from McCutchen’s brand of justice, victims of racial prejudice, and pitted against the wilds of a Texas haunted by rumors of chupacabras behind every bush, Chancho and his friends are forced out of the frying pan into the fire. Chancho will need to outrun his devils, past and present, if he’s to save his friends and rediscover his passion for revolution.

When it comes down to a high-noon standoff between Chancho and the Ranger in the small village of Santo Poco, Chancho gets one last chance to fight for the ideals of his youth—one last chance to stand up against the Man. In the end, only one will stand.

Fistful of Reefer delivers a surge equivalent to a cocktail of one part serotonin, two parts adrenaline, with a dash of grenadine served over ice. This over the top, steampunk western resides between No Country for Old Men and The Three Amigos.

The Green Ones (davidmarkbrown.substack.com)

For the telekinetic youth of New Teotihuacan's Worker City there are two choices: an enslaved life or a free death. By sixteen, everyone must choose.

Calli Bluehair's only hope of escaping a violent death in the self-indulgent underground of Worker City is the government-run Masa Academy. Choosing to ignore the rumors that the Academy is an option worse than death, Calli determines to claw her way onto the registry and take her brother, Olin, with her.

When, only days before registration, Olin is thrown into a state of telekinetic shock capable of detonating half of Worker City, Calli is forced to seek help from an infamous crime lord or risk losing her future and her only remaining family. It turns out that many have intentions for the uniquely gifted siblings and survival may no longer be enough.

Brown's page-turning, dystopian adventure revolves around a heroine who must maintain her humanity in the midst of monstrous decisions. His vivid rendering of telekinesis births a complex, mysterious, and provocative world that reveals itself to the reader in a kaleidoscope of detail the longer one chooses to stare through his fractured lens. The Green Ones series is a mix of The Hunger Games, Ready Player One, and Ender’s Game.

De Novo (Possible Streaming Substack Based on Results of Others)

The rules are about to change.

When Jim Buckner's daughter is kidnapped, his obsession shifts from discovering the lost genetic sequence for awakening human immortality to discovering who took her and how to get her back.

The journey reveals a hibernating side-effect of his research, telekinesis. At the heart of a secret war raging for over a century, Buckner discovers how far he'll go to get his daughter back--as far as it takes.

A father-daughter story written as paranoid thriller, De Novo Syndrome centers on a father learning to dedicate his heart, rather than his work, to his daughter. The fact his life's work has been to save his daughter's life only complicates the matter.

Relic Hunters (Possible Streaming Substack Based on Results of Others)

Jim Buckner’s world would be spinning apart—if only he could be certain it were real.

As a button-down systems analyst with a disintegrating family, Jim Buckner is unprepared to face the truth: a gang of telekinetic teenagers has been unleashed with orders to kill him before he discovers his full potential—the potential to manipulate matter at the molecular level with his mind.

Destined for a larger calling he knows nothing about, Buckner turns to his daughter’s mysterious friend for answers. She claims he must risk everything to steal an ancient relic, present at the creation of the universe, from an age-old cult sworn to protect it.

In his genre-challenging, mind-bending style, David Mark Brown channels untamable thrills through the first-person character of Jim Buckner, who virtually leaps off the page in a series of escalating confrontations that leave the reader gasping for air.

Whether arriving at First Relic as a newbie or a seasoned traveler within the DMB universe, the experience remains both indelible and tantalizingly frustrating. Reminiscent of The Terminator, Total Recall and The Matrix, First Relic will take you to the edge and leave you asking for more.
