Welcome to the Lost DMB Files (Start Here)
Streaming a lost, pulp-western reality from the Schism 8 World
Ranging from steampunk westerns to campy horror, these dime-store pulps harken back to an era of anti-heroes, complex villains, nightmarish monsters, conspiracy theories, shootouts, and explosions.
Some conspiracies remain theories. Others become obsessions. Exhumed 100 years after their penning, the Lost DMB Files will reinterpret the way you perceive the world…and possibly the way it perceives you.
Dime novelist and pulp fiction writer, David Mark Brown, mysteriously disappeared during the 1930s. Until recently, his obscure writings had all but been forgotten. Violent conspiracy theorists contend his fiction preserves a secret history, a history able to reclaim our future, if the war it unleashes doesn’t destroy us in the process.
Drawing upon spaghetti westerns of old as well as more recent influences such as Firefly, The Mandalorian, and No Country for Old Men to create a haunting beauty framed by mud-encrusted gore, these episodic stories will take you back to the Saturday matinee serials of your youth by delivering non-stop, over-the-top, killer-action scenes.
“Sergio Leone would have killed to film Fistful of Reefer. Harry Turtledove would admire the way history has been skewed. Others will love the notion of the Lost DMB Files. The estimable Mr. Brown has really latched onto something here.“ ~ Mike Resnick (The Godfather of Weird Western)
MORE ABOUT THE SCHISM 8 STORYVERSE:
(What is a StoryVerse?)
Reality is broken.
In a world where senses perceive a fraction of reality, every conspiracy should be taken seriously and the impossible considered probable. From secret histories to alternate futures, to paranoid thriller, pulp western, and dystopian fantasy, Schism 8 pieces together a vast reality that eventually pits its central characters against each other as they attempt to assert their personal views of reality as correct. In the end, whose image will the universe reflect? Only those who envision the Schism will survive.

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
If I give you my email will I get flooded with daily emails from you?
No. I’ll post scenes to lostdmbfiles.substack on a daily basis. But email will be sent out in the form of a weekly digest on Fridays. Each weekly email will catch you up with the scenes that have been published over the past week along with giving you additional news and nuggets. This email will also serve as a reminder and a quick link for you.
Is this some kind of bait and switch scam to get me hooked on your stories?
No. You will be able to read all the way to the end for free. I’ll never force you to pay to finish a story.
How the heck do you plan on making any money?
While I won’t force you to pay, I won’t turn down payment either. Everything you read here on lostdmbfiles.substack will also be available in ebook and print formats via Amazon.com and Bookshop.org. At any point during your reading, you are invited to purchase the ebook or print book if you prefer those reading experiences. Even if you prefer the serial reading option, I welcome premium subscribers here on substack. You can click the below button to subscribe!
Do you seriously expect me to read an entire book on your lostdmbfiles.substack website?
I realize serial release reading here on lostdmbfiles.substack isn’t for everyone. While some of you will enjoy the momentary, daily diversions provided by these little chunks of story, some of you will not. This is why I’m making all of these stories available in ebook and print format as well. At the end of every scene (and in every weekly email digest), you’ll find linked buttons for purchasing your preferred format between ebook (Amazon.com) and paperback (Bookshop.org).
What if I want to know more about your stories before reading them?
Click over to my about page for a quick blurb on each of the series in the Schism 8 StoryVerse.
What is the Schism 8 StoryVerse?
Once again, click on over to my about page for a quick introduction to the Schism 8 StoryVerse as well as an explanation on what a StoryVerse is (think Marvel).
What can I expect next?
I’ll publish the entirety of Fistful of Reefer (Season 1 of The Lost DMB Files) over the span of 100 (or so) days. Depending on demand (and my production schedule), I might continue on with The Austin Job, Season 2 of The Lost DMB Files immediately after finishing season 1, or I might take a short intermission.
I also have a second streaming substack for The Green Ones that you may occasionally hear about in my Weekly Digest. You are free to follow that series as well (which takes place in the same Schism 8 StoryVerse) at davidmarkbrown.substack.com. If things go well, then you can expect new De Novo and Relic Hunters streaming substacks in 2021.
On that note…
